Schools

Everyone has been a beginner at some point. As beginners, peers and teachers are important motivators and influences in the journey to success. Through Let's Band Together, Wofford band students are given an opportunity to become the peers and teachers to beginning middle school band students who are financially unable to afford lessons, completing the cycle of musical mentors.

As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect. Millions of successful musicians have echoed this saying with one slight wording change: smart practice, constant practice, and strategic practice make perfect in the end. Any musician can play a song over and over until it is learned or memorized, but has it been truly retained? Through one-on-one, thirty minute lessons each week, Wofford band students reinforce the habits taught by middle-school directors and encourage structured, productive practice among beginning middle school musicians.

Wofford band students are not only music teachers for their middle school students, but are also peer mentors. Being in their shoes only a few years earlier, Wofford students can have a positive influence over the lives of their students and give helpful tips and motivation towards academics as well.
